When was the last time you took own your advice?
I keep talking with career practitioners about the lack of brand awareness for our field. So many people simply don't know we exist. They don't understand the value of #CareerDevelopment. They don't know how it can help them in creating & sustaining a happy, meaningful life.
The list of trendy #GetHappy tools is overflowing:
Mindfulness. Squatty potty. Kombucha. Productivity hacks. Outdoor time. Movement. Connection. Pet a cat or ten. Vitamin D.
What about a little Vitamin C, as in, a dose of career advice?
There are many things we can do as a field to build our brand. There's one that we don't often think of: are we taking our own medicine? I ask you, CDPers, when was the last time you got career advice for yourself? Let's go 1 step further, when was the last time you told someone about your own life-changing career conversations?
Here's mine: every time I take training with Mark Franklin, P.Eng.,CMF I get my dose. By incorporating experiential learning into his programs, you become the client. You learn the techniques, in part, by experiencing them for yourself. I love that.
A challenge: Let's be brand ambassadors for our field. Let's talk about how career advice has helped us in our own lives.
