"What if I make the wrong choice?"
This question is so common, and I often hear it mid-way through my #narrative coaching process with clients. They gain some clarity about what they want, why and how they can actually get it. Then, doubt creeps in.
I remind them about our holistic definition of #career - that it's the full expression of who you are & how you want to be in the world, which keeps on expanding as it naturally goes through cycles of stability & change.
Think your your career is contracting? Think again. There are no mistakes, only expanding clarity about what you really want emerging from what you now know you don’t want.
It’s natural that who you are changes. Think cycles, circles, and spirals, rather than a study-work-retire straight line.
We often think of career stability as a fleeting dream that no longer exists in today’s economy. Whatever the duration of a job - 6 months, 6 years, 16 years - let's rethink stability to mean that you’re engaged with what you’re doing and rooted by that devotion.
It’s a cliche, but the only constant is change in our careers & lives. Learning to navigate through change in proactive ways and make choices, powered by clarity, may lead you to unexpected places, but they won't be the wrong places.
